I love Jesus & I love cheetos – this is the perfect combination.

Last night, on American Idol (yes I watch) Kris Allen sang from one of my favorite artists – Marvin Gaye. He sang, “What’s goin on?” Such a social conscious song. My favorite line is “only love can conquer hate”
Isn’t that true. Every situation that we could ever encounter can be overcome if we have love. In our western minds, we think that bigger guns and tanks can ultimately win over our enemies. I respectfully would have to disagree.
If we look at the greatest example of love EVER – yes JESUS, he looked evil, hate right in the eye. And Jesus, Jesus was innocent. But he was aggressively loving. He wasn’t passive, but he was nonviolent.
You might not be fighting literal wars, but in your everyday circumstances, give love a shot. Try loving instead of bitterness, instead of envy, instead of wishing bad to your enemies. In the end, love wins.

Check out this story about a senior student about to get banished for attending a prom with his girlfiend. The student is a senior at a christian school..the girlfriend doesn’t go there. Enough said.

As American Christians, we pray about whether to take a higher paying job, or which car to buy, or what house to buy. Don’t get me wrong, important decisions, ones that it’s okay to involve God’s wisdom on. But overall as Americans, it’s really sad when we complain about our lack of finances even though we’re likely to blame for them, i.e. too much lending and purchasing on credit. At the same time, we still have money when compared to the rest of the world.

I remember a conversation in Grad school – wow already four years ago. A student and the professor were having a healthy exchange and the professor was quoting some work by a theologian who many in the room considered to be a heretic. Therefore this student thought we should not listen to any of this person’s work on account of the few things he disagreed with.
I always thought we should engage healthy dialogue even when we disagree with certain things. That said, I think we can gain truth, even if we disagree with people politically, spritually, emotionally.
Every morning when I actually make it to the gym, I read a sign that quotes Gandhi, “Be the change you hope to see in the world.”
While I can say I don’t agree with his overall religion – heck I must admit I don’t really know in-depth much about other religions. I trust Christ’s work, but to be brutally honest, I took a comparative religion course way back in the day and don’t recall much… Anyway, I can agree and find practical truths from his nonviolent and compassion view of life.
So I found some other quotes from Gandhi I found interesting:
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the
strong.” – wow how strong is Jesus?
“Whenever you are confronted with an opponent. Conquer him with love.”
